Discharge Upgrade Notes – 24 May 2019
Here are a couple of notes that popped in my mind today regarding discharge upgrades. This is especially important when post-service accomplishments are the main basis for an upgrade.
- You must impress the board. A well-rounded resume’ consists of achievements professionally, academically, personally, and in support of community service initiatives.
- Show consistency. Jumping jobs every 6 months is not impressive.
- Longevity counts. Show dedication to one profession or organization. It shows that you have value and are someone that is retainable.
- Blaming others for your mistakes is rarely a successful strategy.
- Be completely transparent with the board.
- Be patient.
Having been a discharge upgrade lawyer for almost a decade, these are some factors that influence the board and can make up for misconduct during service.
More later.
